Tarini: 37y.o.; Location: South Korea; Occupation: Local-Guide, Blogger, Photographer; Loves: Family; Cooking; Rabbits

Together with her friends, Tarini discoverеd vertical farming¹ and learn to be one of the best with the time. She joined the East-Asia community of the Global Network for Vertical Farming, where she found great peers to share knowledge and experience with.

The companies working in this field became leaders in the food supply chain in the East-Asia region a few years ago and now expanding to South, North America, and Europe. New markets, like Health and Beauty, were touched and influenced by this self-farming movement, too.

On The Roof

Every morning, after dressing and washing her teeth, Tarini took the elevator for 34 floors to the top of the SS Towers, located near the Banpo Bridge². On the roof, she authenticated herself on the glass door and entered inside the elevating tube to reach her private garden branch³.

Tarini carefully stepped out of the tube and lightly touched the green mix of different herbs and vegetables at the lowerest level. Before she picked the ingredients for her and her son’s breakfast, she took a quick look at the screen. The gardening process was fully automated and worked as a controlled ecosystem provided with the perfect amount of light, air & nutrients. The data for the everyday progress was collected in special software and Tarini had a complete overview of all the improvements reflecting the everyday external conditions. Today, everything was looking just fine and as expected. The field environment was self-improving fastly, and the plants seemed healthy.⁴

The Y-Cactus

Tarini was about to cultivate a freshly discovered plant culture that can disrupt the skin protection industry. She was eager to help as many people as she can to protect themself from the pollution coming from the North Korean Winds. On the 29th of August, every year, the wind changes direction from the North-East and brings fine particles of gasses that cause everyone to stay at home for a week or two.

Her journey was inspired by something troublesome that she read:

“Pollution is created by emissions of toxic gases,” explained Dr. Rachael Eckel, a cosmetic dermatologist. “Combined with UV rays from the sunlight, it creates a highly reactive molecule that causes damage to the human proteins, collagen, and lipids in the skin. Remember, the main function of the skin is to act as a barrier or a shield.” Dr. Adam Geyer adds: “When breathed in, pollutants generate circulating free radicals and increase our inflammatory state by activating our immune response, which can accelerate signs of aging.”

Firstly, Tarini connected with Dr. Eckel and Dr. Geyer and established contacts with some leading local names in dermatology. By luck, she met Akida - one of the famous influencers for bio-positive culture. They were both invited to participate in a podcast for the bio-lab channel of one of the leading food delivery company. Akida told her about a leaf used for skin cleaning and rejuvenation in some old traditional recipes in his country — Tanzania.

She decided to dig deeper and to find any useful information about this leaf and how it is used by the locals now and in the past.

“It might be possible to cultivate it here in Seul, too.” thought Tarini. The first challenge was that this plant produces the needed ingredient only in a specific environment. Tarini was sure that thanks to her software, and equipment she could achieve an adequate controlled environment and will be able to grow the plant on a rooftop in Seul. She named the experiment Y-Cactus.

The second challenge was to be ready before the 29th of August.

The Company

Tarini succeeded to grow a healthy Y-Cactus plant and to extract the needed ingredient. She managed to create a new special microbiome able to support the growth of the plant in an environment different than the natural habitat of the plant.

She decided to cultivate the new seeds and to provide the data from her experimental process. The 7th generation of seeds was ready to be spread around the world.

Many people reacted positively to the idea to support and join her crowdsourcing company. Together with Akida, they decided to build a team on a smart contract⁵ with people who can contribute and applied for a blockchain patent⁶ for a delivery company. She will provide the first seeds and the data and the others (subscribers)will grow them at their private farms.

Their goals

  1. Durable Y-Cactus seeds ready to be planted in any garden equipped with the right equipment.⁷
  2. Finalize a stable version of the training of the equipment to perform growing procedures.
  3. To ship on time to every subscriber.

The Launch

14 Days before 29th of August
They shipped the seeds packaged in vacuum cameras.

The Day Before
Tarini spread the code to be accessible in every garden assistant and broadcasted the recipe in the Akida’s blog.

29 August 2030
First people were seen on the streets by 10 a.m. They were not afraid to go outside thanks to the new skin formula. They congratulated Tarini on spreading the word. Tarini and her team can plan bigger for 2031!
